I will be giving a talk on the life of significant Irish literary figure, Frank O'Connor, in Pembroke Library on Wednesday, 12 June @ 1pm. O'Connor had strong connections with Pembroke Library, appointed as its first librarian in 1928. His death mask is on display in the library.

17th May 1974. I was a young child in a shoe shop on Talbot Street with my Mum (8 months pregnant) & Dad, when the bomb exploded. We survived. 34 including Colette Doherty (21), of Sheriff Street, 9 months pregnant died, her 1 year old daughter Wendy survived. I can never forget.

It's interesting what comes up when researching. I noticed this picture in the Evening Herald in May 1974 of the Carruth triplets from Walkinstown receiving their First Holy Communion. Michael, to the right, went on to win a boxing gold at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
