Book rec: "The First Three Minutes" by Weinberg is one of the best pieces of popular Science writing I've read. Amazingly accessible account of what we know of the Big Bang.

Great paper by Casey Breen Elissa M. Redmiles, Ph.D. Cormac Herley on actually measuring cyber crime. dl.acm.org/doi/fullHtml/1… Their data suggests the typical american risks losing around 20bucks to cybercrime. The comparison to other estimates by security product vendors made me lol

Our CHI Consumer cybercrime paper. I learnt so much from Casey Breen and Elissa M. Redmiles, Ph.D. collaborating on this. There's so much incentive to produce eye-popping cybercrime numbers with sloppy method; I'm so grateful to my co-authors for insisting on doing it right.

I’m interested in reading some philosophy. Where should I start? Kant: With Hume. Hegel: With Spinoza. Schopenhauer: Why bother? Nietzsche: If you can read, it’s already too late to become a philosopher.

Talking about spam accts, bot accts, sock-puppets and inauthentic engagement interchangeably indicates you haven’t thought really carefully about the problem. I could have a million bot followers who like/retweet everything I say, but none of which ever sends spam.

Why discussions about what is/is not "Science" tend to be so tedious: "most of the annoying arguments about the topic happen because people are using different definitions without ever clearly specifying which one they mean."

Being annoyed that some site doesn't mandate MFA is pretty close to thinking that you understand their business better than they understand their business. #hugeiftrue

Yep. Before joining the pile-on to agree how stupid/corrupt/incompetent Twitter's bot detection is, it's well worth trying to describe what a soln would look like.

Not sure I understand the derision that infosec ppl pour on consumer VPNs. Sure, they over-promise, over-charge and basically do nothing. But how exactly is this different from AV, ID theft insurance etc? #ifyouregonnacleanhousethencleanhouse

Turns out there's a big difference between current value of future earnings, and current value of future earnings that shareholders have any prospect of getting.

People who work at Twitter deserve so much better than this. Those I know are among the most brilliant and conscientious in the industry.
