Jacobean house, Lowe Street, Deritend, 1859. Originally called Ravehurst, this 16th Century house was owned by local attorney John Lowe. With extensions designed by Pugin, it would become St Anne's Convent in 1863. Bomb damage in WWII resulted in its demolition. #Birmingham

The Gaumont Palace Theatre, Steelhouse Lane, 1931. Situated where the Wesleyan currently stands, this cinema was damaged during WII. Modernised in the sixties, it showed The Sound of Music for 168 weeks. In 1973 it boasted the largest screen in Europe. It closed in 1983.

Corals Photos There's a great cherry-picker shot of that era in the establishing scene of the BBC series Gangsters. The camera pans across Snow Hill, the Gaumont & WM Police HQ, as it descends through the roof into the original station buildings. Only the police HQ is recognisable now.
