the business lobby, especially from corporations, have done an immense amount of harm in prolonging the pandemic. their 'solutions' to address the labor shortage, as one example, including ending UI, refusing mask/vaccine mandates, etc. prolonged pandemic.

The biggest US econ story this week = Rising risk of a recession. More and more economists are saying there's a 1 in 3 chance of a recession in the coming year or so. High inflation. War in Ukraine. More supply problems. And lots of Fed rate hikes. That's a lot to handle.

Here's 1 more reason to permanently #FixUI: we should have to not count on each Congress for 1 off tax relief for those who face the double burden of job loss and federal income taxes on meager #unemployment benefits.

DC has the highest rate of homelessness in America. It is beyond shameful that FOX 5 DC had ZERO questions focused on homelessness during tonight's Mayoral forum. #DCision2022

Here you have Lawrence H. Summers blandly calling for nearly 2 million people losing their jobs and their families' lives being decimated. Even as the Euro area 6.6% unemployment rate has done nothing to stop it from having an 8.1% inflation rate. Just callous idiocy.

It strange that the news and hawks never talk about the fact that *businesses* are the ones who decide how much inflation we have. they are literally the ones who make pricing decisions. Could we interview some private equity landlords, giant food processors, Big Oil?

“High inflation is not workers’ fault, but the Fed is waging a war on US workers,” Sahm said. theguardian.com/business/2022/…

Truly. What a waste of time. You should be asking how Congress is going to help Americans when the recession comes. We should be preparing now. x.com/Claudia_Sahm/s…

Kelvin Brown Steve Thompson Everyone is playing the card for developers. People need to wake up and realize what's going on with all this dysfunction. She is good friends with the Mayor, and these are federal dollars we are talking about

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) asks Powell what he would say to 2 million people losing their jobs if he keeps raising rates? A testy exchange leads to this Powell redirect: "Will working people be better off if we just walk away from our jobs and inflation remains 5%-6%?"

The problem is not that the dude at Arby’s got a 50 cent raise a year ago and a $1,400 check two years ago. The problem is corporations making record profits driving up the price of everything. The problem is corporate greed, Larry.

From a housing justice perspective, Mayor Muriel Bowser's budget is a giant step backwards. We must push Council of DC to fund significant gaps in housing to end homelessness, ERAP, vouchers, and much more. washingtoncitypaper.com/article/596241… via @AlexKomaWCP

My recent piece for Bloomberg Opinion reminds us we have much to lose if we lose the labor market. The Fed sees an "extremely tight" labor market as a problem. For millions on the margins like those with disabilities, it's been a big opportunity. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

NEW: Probe finds that John Falcicchio, a top former advisor to Mayor Bowser who resigned in March, sexually harassed staffer. City releases summary of probe Saturday night on a holiday weekend. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2023/…

This is a cover up. The report was released now?? Also, if every council member doesn’t release some form of statement on this…then they are complicit and scared of the Mayor

Alex Koma (@alexkomadc) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Remember that Bowser also dumped the news of Falcicchio's resignation on a Friday night, claimed he left for the private sector and didn't reveal anything about the allegations until the next week. How does this build any confidence that the administration takes this seriously?

In new piece on barriers to accessing #unemployment insurance, Michele Evermore calls out major shortcoming of debt ceiling deal that's received little attention—the gutting of half of fed funding for UI improvement. "They took a billion dollars." marketplace.org/2023/06/26/une…
