Since 2013, the #HackadayPrize has challenged #engineers, #designers, & #hackers to raise the bar of open source #hardware. In this series, majenta strongheart revisits past winners to see how their projects have progressed. Here's 2019 Winner: FieldKit by Conservify👇🦾

This whole thread from Shah Selbe helps paint a picture of the struggles we've been dealing with trying to get FieldKit hardware out in the world. We are so beyond grateful for the patience and understanding from our community over the past two years. 🧵

For #WorldOceansDay 🌊 we're sharing a preview of a project our team is currently working on: FieldKit Underwater, a fully submersible version of FieldKit for use in marine and other underwater environments. (1/3)

Our team has been testing prototypes and tweaking designs in order to create a FieldKit station that can be submerged in oceans to aquifers and anywhere else you might want to use an underwater sensing tool. (2/3)

Once we've perfected the design and it's ready for sale, we would love to see FieldKit Underwater used in oceans across the planet (plus anywhere else you might need it). Where would you most like to use FieldKit Underwater? (3/3)

It is critical that environmental monitoring doesn’t just stop at deploying the technology. The real goal here is the community work and providing actionable improvements/accountability based on the data.

This is a great video by Mongabay explaining the conservation/biodiversity challenges we face and how technology can play a part. Thanks to Mike DiGirolamo is on BlueSky for the shout out about the work we do, if you’d like to learn more please check out FieldKit.org and Conservify.

.FieldKit.org’s research engineer Pete Marchetto wrote a great blog post about part of our mission, to make scientifically relevant tools more accessible to all who need it. This is worth a read: fieldkit.org/blog/inexpensi…

An exciting FieldKit.org project launched today: FloodNet. We have been working with NYC Mayor's Office and teams from New York University and The City University of New York to visualize flooding through all five NYC boroughs using FieldKit. Learn all about it here: fieldkit.org/blog/data-driv…

What an honor! I am so proud of the work we do at FieldKit.org and Conservify to design and deploy open source technologies for wildlife conservation and environmental protection. Lucky to get this award alongside my impressive friend Manu Prakash of the PrakashLab.

Just another reminder to all those who are waiting on things from hardware folks: the supply chain crisis is still very much an issue. We recently ran into a few more issues, pushing some FieldKit stuff back into 2023.
