I wrote to the Home Secretary on 10 July seeking clarity on the future of Scampton. I waited all this time for a non-reply from a civil servant. Labour promised to release the site to West Lindsey but now they only say a decision will be made “in due course”.

Keir Starmer and the Labour candidates for Lincoln and Gainsborough repeatedly made a solemn promise. What trust is there in politics if they don’t keep it? All this delay is endangering regeneration.

Newspaper reports say the conditions in the Special Development Order I persuaded Michael Gove to impose make it not worthwhile for the Home Office to proceed. It that’s so then the Home Secretary needs to release the site now – not waste more time. £300 million is at stake.

One bit of good news is that the airmens' blocks at Scampton have been refurbished to a very high standard. This has added value to the site. Previously they were in a very poor state.

Ed Miliband has now passed two huge solar applications in my constituency with no local democracy — Cottam and Gate Burton. I have repeatedly asked to meet him to make the point that these applications in & around West Lindsey amounting to 10,000 acres must be taken as a whole.
