The Roman fort at Caerhun had a bath building situated to the east in the usual spot for a small Roman fort. Many changes over the centuries and possibly it had marble embellishments, possibly even a temple close by - not been tested yet however.

An eBay provided LEGIO II battle of Actium Marc Anthony denarius. Two found in excavations at Caerhun - HQ courtyard and southern annex both in 2nd C.E levels. Low grade silver didn't get hoarded (much) and this circulated until the 3rd C C.E - very worn.

The legionary denarius of Anthony - Actium while minted in the east made it to Britannia in large and worn numbers, read how C.A.T found an example in Colchester - a nice write up and story -catuk.org/the-extraordin…

A rather fancy building stone featuring the boar of the 20th legion found at Corbridge south of #HadriansWall the central text shows the 6th Cohort, on either side at the top is the abbreviated name of Tullius Capito #RIB1167

The old postcard shows a nice view of the west gate at Birdoswald/Banna on Hadrian's Wall. The S/W corner -tower top right appears not excavated (as of now too) but the large tree centre has now vanished.

Ella & Chloe are very historically minded little girls, they can see the find spot of the Mold gold cape from their house. On their way to see Taylor Swift they checked it out at the BM. Favourite exhibit at the BM for them? - Pete Marsh Lindow Man!

Proof Mr Bean served in the Roman army. Full sized auxilia foot soldier courtesy of Nat Mus W, he once lived in a glass case at the fort at Caernarfon, he's now retired, I hear he is a lorry driver.

Nice view of the Roman fort at Caerhun seen from the nearby village of Tyn-y-Groes. It's pretty much dead centre beneath the river, you can see the church and lych gate and even the fort corner to the right.

The Roman crossing point of the Conwy at Tal-y-Cafn. No Roman bridge simply a ford. Medieval ferry point from 1301 until the modern bridge was constructed in 1897. Caerhun fort was about a mile south, this point also was the crossing of the Chester-Caernarfon Roman road.

The Romans crossed the River Conwy at Tal-y-Cafn because it solved a route problem caused by huge headlands from Conwy-Penmaenmawr. It was a natural route line used by gas pipe lines in the 20th C and in the Neolithic period. A major river but narrow at low tide - photo.
