After 3 great weeks the LifETIME-CDT rotational training comes to an end in Birmingham. No better way to top it off than with a curry amongst friends! here’s to the future !

2/3 ideal as ‘biological bubble wrap’ to protect cells. HSC maintenance and survival using normal cell culture techniques is poor. Viable HSCs in a population fall by 30-40% upon traditional freeze/thaw preservation methods. Hypothermic temperatures – below 35C – #lifetimeTC23

3/3 reduce cell metabolism. My @CDTlifetime #phd project is to use alginate to protect HSCs under hypothermic temperatures to induce reduced metabolism, and store them without usual viability loss to allow Pharma to more easily investigate drugs to treat leukaemias. #lifetimeTC23

1/3 Short-term, Room Temperature Storage of Haematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) in bio-bubble wrap beads. HSCs produce all blood and immune cells in the body and can form leukaemic cancer cells. Alginate, a hydrogel derived from seaweed, is biocompatible and porous – #lifetimeTC23
