First shot of the day. Systematic metal detecting by Winchester Archaeology and Anthropology on the battlefield at #Cheriton1644 with Sam Wilson and Will Reid. There's a chill wind blowing towards our position at the Royalist lines.
Spent wet & chilly day continuing systematic metal detecting survey on the battlefield at #Cheriton1644 with Sam Wilson Will Reid Julian Humphrys & Winchester Archaeology and Anthropology students. Much better than being in the office answering emails (sorry if you're waiting for a reply).
A bit of coverage of the Battlefields Trust project at Stow. It was a slight labour of love but we ended up with some really interesting results!
A joy to be a small part of this representing the Battlefields Trust, and surveying a small part of the battlefield. Modbury is a recent entry to the Trust's 'Battlefield Hub' (info collated by Simon Marsh) so you can find more info here: battlefieldstrust.com/resource-centrâŚ
A really very moving week excavating the 1944 crash site of a USAAF B17 in Suffolk with US & British participants as part of Op Nightingale alongside Cotswold Archaeology on behalf of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) . Important finds with more to come..
Great to see the new Battlefields Trust archaeological research on the Battle of Stow published in this. Some tremendous work by Simon Marsh and the rest of the team.
Latest from the Mont St Jean site with Waterloo Uncovered. Six pound cannon ball lodged in rib cage of a horse. In three decades of conflict archaeology lâve never seen the like. Here being excavated by Sam Wilson, otherwise known as Sam! Scottish Centre - War Studies/Conflict Archaeology
