If there is one thing I learnt listening to Dr. Nasser Latif Nasser today at ComSciCon CAN keynote is the power of reverse engineering and how I can tell good stories while keeping my scientific rigor and integrity. #CSCC21 #scicomm
ComSciConCAN panel takeaway- when communicating with someone who’s ideas don’t align with your own: find shared values, approach with empathy, and ask questions AND be willing to listen to the answer. #CSCC21 ComSciConCAN Dr. Krishana Sankar Torah Kachur
Huge shout out to Dr. Krishana Sankar Torah Kachur kori czuy Dina Al-khooly Visions of Science for sharing great advice for #SciComm to diverse audiences at the ComSciConCAN panel. Thanks also to the fantastic Julie McNutt for co-organizing this panel discussion with me! My❤is full!
On the schedule for #CSCGTA21 today: The second panel on science policy at 12pm EST, our last workshop: humor in science communication lead by Nancy Watt, poster session and of course… more POP TALKS!!! 🎉
Today's Science Policy #scipol panel is especially relevant given the recently approved federal election in Canada! #CSCC21 Tip from Rachael Maxwell "Start by asking politicians: What are your top priorities?"
Thinking more about a half-formed point I tried to make ComSciCon-GTA re: analogies. I said something like, "if you are going to introduce an analogy, commit to it and use it again later. Otherwise, re-think using it at all". I think I'd add "maybe a simile would be enough?"
Anyone going to Canadian Science Policy Centre (CSPC) conf. this year? 📝📝 scientificanada.ca would like to virtually send someone to take conference notes and report back. I know some ComSciCon-GTA and ComSciConCAN attendees were interested in Evidence for Democracy and policy in general...
My fave part of ComSciConCAN is the Create-A-Thon where participants write/record/film a science piece. Huge cong🐀🐀 to MelanieDenomme for publishing this article about reconsidering reptiles as pets in The Conversation Canada that I was lucky to review ComSciCon-GTA [Quoted tweet]
