We're campaigning for a secondary school system with fair admissions & no more 11-plus. Children are more likely to succeed in high quality all-ability schools.

What if every child was automatically enrolled in their nearest school? "Our school system is riddled with filters - by postcode, by performance, by faith, by selection. We’ve built a model that permits, and at times encourages, subtle segregation." tes.com/magazine/leade…

Interesting new survey in Northern Ireland shows opposition to grammar school selection. Plus 42% of respondents believed the test had an adverse effect on the mental health of children. sluggerotoole.com/2025/05/07/new…

Kemkaran said she would be "looking at ways to save money at the authority." Kent County Council recently spent nearly Ā£1,000,000 on a contract for the county's 11-plus. Surely that has no proven educational benefit and is an utter waste of cash! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Interesting thoughts from Geoff Dyer who suggests that when he passed the 11-plus it was, 'the most momentous event of his life.' But he talks about the 'flipside' with many other children dismissed and discouraged with just one exam. bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

The academic background of Cambridge students is skewed disproportionately towards grammar schools. "Cambridge cannot claim to prioritise outreach while ignoring the fact that grammar schools contribute to class divisions amongst school children." varsity.co.uk/comment/29749

"It’s astonishing how little is known about the criteria schools use to decide who gets a place." Why don't the DfE require admissions reporting? This would expose unfairness, support research, and illuminate a system that's too often hidden from scrutiny.comprehensivefuture.org.uk/lords-amendmen…

A clip from Northern Ireland, but things are much the same here. "Not one grammar school has provision for children with special needs... The non grammar sector are doing the heavy lifting."

Alexa Collins (@alexacollinsdes) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Absolutely the same position here. Segregation does not benefit our children, and those who can pay (for tuition) reap benefits, the rest do not. And Buckinghamshire Council continue to pretend it's a fair and equitable system. It's neither. #end11plus

Schools are not equal... Kent grammar school 2% FSM pupils, 24% of pupils transferring from private primary, next to no SEN pupils. Kent non-selective school 62% FSM pupils, 33% SEN support. It's not fair to praise grammars 'fantastic behaviour' when they choose who gets in.

šŸ“¢ New investigation: Over 123,000 children sat 11+ tests in 2024. šŸ’° Cost to the public? At least Ā£5.5 million. 57 different tests. No Ofqual oversight. This isn’t just unfair—it’s chaotic and expensive. comprehensivefuture.org.uk/the-5-million-…

Staggering. Remember, selective systems fail not just those who don’t meet an arbitrary mark - but also those who get into grammar schools, often damaging their personal well-being & narrowing their vision of what success can be!
