Despite the rain and floods now is the time of year to prepare for the fire season ahead. There was a great turnout of staff, contractors and local fire brigades in Glenfarne Co Leitrim to review equipment and preparations.

Stay safe outdoors! We encourage people to get out and go for walks BUT if the forest you go to is busy there are many more to choose from bit.ly/2xbwHVl. If you have to drive please do not block roads as emergency services may need access.

Our forests and forest parks will only be open to local pedestrians from today. Carparks at all our sites are closed to the public. This is in order to facilitate citizens living within 2km of our forests provided all adhere to strict 2m #socialdistancing measures.

A National Fire Risk Warning remains in place. Serious wild fires and forest fires occured in the Wicklow uplands this week. They diverted emergency services away from focusing on Covid-19 pandemic & placed lives at risk. bit.ly/2yjPQoX

Due to the fire risk warning in place landowners and the public should avoid all outdoor fires and other open ignition sources. Emergency services should not be put at risk during what is a difficult time for frontline staff. #BeFireSafetyAware

We have seen an increase of illegal dumping in our forests in the past month. We take this issue very seriously. Illegal dumping can cause serious environmental damage. Please report illegal dumping to your Local Authority or via the EPA Ireland See it Say it App

This Bank Holiday Weekend, please remember we all need to be responsible by staying within 2km of your home for brief exercise. We need to take care of each other and continue to follow HSE Ireland advice on #PhysicalDistancing

We & the @npwsBioData will work together to combat the spread of forest and wild fires over the summer months in Dublin, Wicklow & Midlands regions. Drone technology will be used to survey areas for fires and support firefighters on the ground. #befiresafetyaware
