Delighted that we received news today Public Health Wales that our SARS-CoV-2 sequencing service (covering end to end Oxford Nanopore and Illumina sequencing and bioinformatics) has been awarded ISO 15189 accreditation! Think we may be the first UK Public Health Agency to achieve this!
๐ง Prof Sharon Peacock, Chair of COG-UK, has recently been featured in two podcasts Cambridge University ๐๏ธ Genomics Unravelled ๐ anchor.fm/genomicsunraveโฆ ๐๏ธ CSaP - The Centre for Science and Policy ๐ Robert Doubleday youtube.com/watch?v=ayFtoOโฆ
โ๏ธโWe get surges of interest, like when Omicron emerged, we got a ๐ด๐ฑ๐ช๐ฌ๐ฆ in hits with many people interested in the latest data updates.โ COG-UK Mutation Explorer Derek Wright MRC-Uni of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research CVR Bioinformatics cogconsortium.uk/exploring-mutaโฆ
How can global collaboration ๐ค and genomics training ๐งฌ better prepare us to tackle COVID-19 variants and future pandemics? ๐ฆ Hear from Prof Peacock in our next event: ๐ 5th April โฐ 18:30-19:30 BST ๐ป Online Cambridge Infectious Diseases IRC #CamFest โฌ๏ธ Register cogconsortium.uk/cam-fest-conveโฆ
โ๏ธ โWe cannot just assume that the next virus is going to behave like Omicron, weโve got to be aware that there is the possibility for future waves to be more dangerous. We have to be prepared.โ Emma Thomson @iiiglasgow MRC-Uni of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research cogconsortium.uk/it-was-unlike-โฆ

Omicron certainly deserves to be named as a novel 2nd "strain" of SARS-CoV-2; SARS-3 however should be reserved for a putative SARS-CoV-3, ie, another spillover of a SARS-related coronavirus from horseshoe bats. Eric Topol Kristian G. Andersen Tulio de Oliveira Linfa Wang @gretchenvogel
with amalio telenti & Dr Emma Hodcroft we discussed these definitions in our recent review on The Evolution and Biology of SARS-CoV-2 Variants -- perspectivesinmedicine.cshlp.org/cgi/content/loโฆ
Excited to share one of our latest works on monoclonal Antibodies and COVID-19 variants today published on nature journal. A big thank to @MacGregorCox Tom Peacock Robertson Will Harvey COVID-19 Genomics UK (COG-UK) Consortium #nature #medicine nature.com/articles/s4157โฆ
To help navigate this very dense area of the literature we have written an in depth paper (part review, part meta-analysis) summerising the literature on the topic of mAbs and variants. (led by MacGregor Cox, Robertson & Alessandro Carabelli) nature.com/articles/s4157โฆ
