First preprint from the lab! We have built a computational model to study how distributed working memory emerges in the human brain, with good match with experimental data, comparisons with NHP models, and insight on the role of V1 in WM biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

A new preprint of the CSN group tackled the origin of the elusive "second bump" seen in activity of visual cortex during perception. Though Prefrontal Cortex appears necessary, apparently Posterior Parietal Cortex has a final say in this as well! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Architectures in neural networks commonly assume that inference is hierarchical. However, this view might neglect parallel processes and sub-cortical involvement. Enter: the shallow brain hypothesis, by Suzuki, Pennartz and Jaan Aru! nature.com/articles/s4158…

Defining consciousness is difficult, making the research on it al the more tricky. Different scientists may follow different theories, but could these complement each other? We and various HBP alumni ask this in our new Neuron paper! doi.org/10.1016/j.neur…

Integrated Information Theory (IIT) and the predictive processing theories Active Inference (AI) and Neurorepresentationalism (NREP) have different views on how conscious percepts arise. The INTREPID project explores these contrasting theories! osf.io/4rn85
