Un-learning the 9-5 'corporate productivity' mindset that has been drilled into me. I'd say it took me 12-18 months to get comfortable with working less, but at a MUCH higher standard. (I also now spend roughly half my day thinking). Paul Millerd's work has also helped...

It’s almost like there’s more to elite level management than being competent in tech & tac 🤔 Modern coaching requires mastery across ALL four crafts: 🧢 Personal 🏭 Organizational 🎒 Locker Room ♟️ Game The daily balance of these is where a second set of eyes helps most.

I'd be curious how many of the four have a dedicated #SecondSetOfEyes. My guess is none of them, but let me know if you've heard otherwise. espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…

Every week, I read the autobiography of a head coach and write a detailed post about their standout craft skill. There’s now 27 posts up about the best to ever do it, and how they did it. If that sounds interesting, you can follow along here: coachcraft.codyroyle.com

Second time around: 🧘🏽‍♂️ More patient 🖼️ More of a big picture thinker 🎒 Better at managing locker room 🫨 Less stressed about little details My question: how many more examples like this do we need before this becomes the story of first-time coaches? How do we not learn?

"I'm the opposite of first in, last out. I hate that bullshit. You should be around the breakfast table. I build the schedule at La Rochelle so the first meeting is at 8:30 and I can drop my kids to school." — Ronan O Gara

This whole ep is great, but this snippet stood out to me: "I had coached for 44 years at the time, and [my coach] really helped me up my game. I listened and I took her coaching very seriously." In her final season, the 🐐 hired a second set of eyes and got EVEN better.

I. Love. This! Not only is it a statement of competitive intent, it shows someone who is thinking differently about the game. Most teams wouldn’t do this because they’re so handcuffed to their metrics that the idea wouldn’t even occur to them.

The more we search for new ideas, the more we return to the old ones. The deeper we delve into sport, the deeper we're really just exploring life. A fascinating read about how a French philosopher has influenced football philosophy. #CoachCraft skysports.com/football/news/…
