Exposure to the smell and taste of milk with tube feeds may have little to no effect on time to reach full sucking feeds and full enteral feeds. No clear difference between exposure and no exposure to the smell or taste of milk on safety outcomes. cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10…

Transcutaneous bilirubin screening: - may reduce readmission for hyperbilirubinemia and increase need for phototherapy before discharge - probably has little or no effect on exchange transfusion and acute bilirubin encephalopathy (1 RCT; 1858 newborns) cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10…

This review included 3 types of intervention: 1) intervention at the unit level, 2) at the section or room level, or 3) at the individual level. The included study compared the use of silicone earplugs versus no earplugs in very low birth weight infants. cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10…

This review compared different strategies for caffeine cessation in preterm infants: - different PMAs - before or after 5 days without symptoms - at a predetermined PMA vs at symptoms resolution Findings of larger & just completed RCTs to be included soon cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10…

Donor human milk reduces the risk of NEC in very preterm infants: RR 0.53, 95% CI 0.37 to 0.76; RD −0.03, 95% CI −0.05 to −0.01; 11 trials, 2261 infants Probably little or no effect on late‐onset invasive infection or mortality before hospital discharge cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10…

This year’s #SONPM2024 Thomas E Cone Lecture at NCE is being given by Dr. Kanekal Gautham Dr. K. S. Gautham from Nemours Children's Health and senior editor of Cochrane Neonatal. What is the significance of evidence-based medicine in neonatology?

Cochrane update NCPAP may be more effective than no CPAP in preventing extubation failure in preterm infants if applied immediately after extubation We consider there is no need for further research on this intervention, which has become standard practice cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10…

We analyzed 79 studies (7197 infants, 326 nurses, 12 physicians) across 26 countries using 27 clinical rating scales. Neonatal pain scales showed very low-certainty evidence, raising serious concerns about their validity and reliability in neonatal care. cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10…
