Is Jay Woodcroft the Ted Lasso of hockey? Jay is conducting a leadership masterclass as the world witnesses the launching of his NHL coaching career. 6 things you can take from Jay to transform your own leadership:

1. Clear Message Great leaders communicate simple, clear messages consistently over time. This eliminates confusion and gives employees clarity about what matters. Done properly, you should be bored of your own message as the leader.

2. Internal Focus Great leaders focus their team on the things they control. Teams who focus externally have less confidence and stress. Teams who focus internally have more confidence and act with more urgency. Focusing on process over outcomes creates more success.

3. Clear Feedback Great leaders provide clear and honest feedback. No sugar-coating. Employees can’t grow and develop unless they know the precise habits and behaviours you expect of them. Another perk: Employees work harder for managers who invest their personal growth.

4. Own Your Mistakes Leaders make judgment calls and act with courage. But not all of your decisions will work out. And when they don’t, owning them and admitting them helps create a culture of accountability and psychological safety. Fallible leaders are admirable leaders.

5. Specific Praise Want to ignite pride and motivation in your employees? Make sure you deliver meaningful, timely, and specific praise regularly. If you want to raise your credibility even more, make sure you praise in public and criticize in private.

6. Extreme Humility Great leaders: > Never forget where they came from. > Acknowledge that all success comes partially from luck and help from others. > Are gracious in victory. This is my favourite attribute of Jay’s.

To summarize: 1. Clear Message 2. Internal Focus 3. Clear Feedback 4. Own Your Mistakes 5. Specific Praise 6. Extreme Humility Jay is clearly setting the tone for a culture of high performance. What would you add and what’s your favourite part of these 6 traits?

Everyone needs their first chance. What Jay does with his opportunity remains to be seen but it will be fascinating to see what comes of it. Are we watching the start of an illustrious career? Let’s hope so. And thanks to Chris LaBossiere for inspiration to write this thread.

Hey Dave Dawson you probably should have done some fact check before you posted this. The Vermilion Jr Tigers were the 4th place team in league standings and Wainwright was the second place team. Tigers were underdogs and NOT the top place team in this series. Next time google it.
