Our city is made up over 50% renters. We need to be protecting our tenant services and eviction prevention contracts, not slashing them. We need to be making sure that homes are safe and habitable, and that there is quick and effective recourse if not.

You might not realize the importance of tenant services until you ✨need✨ tenant services. Without adequate funding for renter education, organizing, counseling, and legal services, most renters will have no one to turn to if they have an abusive landlord or are facing eviction

The Mayor's proposed budget slashes legal services for homeless youth, public benefits legal assistance, and more. Human services are always the first to get cut in a budget shortfall, but it doesn't have to be this way. Show up for the Council's Public Hearing on 10/16, 5PM.

Amidst a $260 million budget deficit where there are over 100 City workers getting laid off, this Council just approved $50,000 hiring bonuses for SPD. SPD officers have received a 23% pay increase this year, and the department is seeing an increase of 15% in this year's budget.

I had an energizing time giving the annual City Hall tour to the People’s Academy for Community Engagement (PACE) cohort. Civic participation is the backbone of our democracy and I’m excited for this group to continue stepping into their leadership. Thank you for coming out!

Today's #ShakeOut is a good reminder that we should all be 2 WEEKS READY to survive on our own after a disaster. Check out the examples of what to include in your emergency kit below. #wawx

"The path forward is clear: We must protect JumpStart’s dedicated funding for affordable housing while simultaneously developing new progressive taxes to resolve Seattle’s structural budget deficit." Thank you to Housing Development Consortium of Seattle-King Co. for this timely op-ed. The time for bold action is now.

Took some time away from budget planning to celebrate the signing of our Design Review Exemption bill for projects downtown. This bill would cut red tape, increase much needed housing production, and streamline our permitting process. I hope to see these reforms expand citywide!

Today, for the first time during my tenure on Council, I voted no on our biennial budget. To the thousands who showed up and made your voice heard, thank you and I’m sorry this budget may not reflect your vision for this city. My full remarks here: bit.ly/D2PostBudget
