Marcus Aurelius was a mid emperor who journalled about his management woes and Seneca was a neurotic writer and politician. Laptop workers with career anxiety are exactly the correct audience

Middle of last year I trained an AI model on photos of my own face and used it to generate a virtually infinite stream of avatar images in the styles of different artists... Really should pick that up again and see how state of the art has moved in.

Another contemplative neuroscience paper. This time about mind-wandering. Turns out mind wandering is pretty stable inside of a person. If your mind wanders a lot in one context, it likely does in others, too. contemplativeneuroscience.com/mind-wandering…

Thinking I should protect the world's IP by open sourcing some abysmal code I wrote in my 20's. I bet it could singlehandedly regress every LLM's code output by years when it makes it into the training dataset.

Looked up at the Sesame Street and REM are doing a version of Shiny Happy People rewritten to be about monsters. I never realized what ridiculous musical guests were on Sesame Street before, the other day I watched Ray Charles singing the alphabet.

Another contemplative neuroscience paper summary, the evocatively titled "A Wandering Mind is an Unhappy Mind", which uses large-scale sampling to discover that happiness is driven *more* by whether your mind is wandering than by the task you are doing contemplativeneuroscience.com/wandering-mind…

The plot of every Curious George book is "the ungovernable monkey escalates a mundane situation into a life threatening and costly emergency and deserves to be put down"

I usually work from home, but am going to the office three times next week. That's 6-8 hours in the car. Think I know how to make this worthwhile. I have long been interested in listening to the Rob Burbea jhana retreat talks, but never had the focused time for audio

Decided to take a shot at learning to write Tibetan Uchen script... Rude awakening of the day, the advice for left-handed people is "just use your right hand". Given that this is the first ever thing I wrote right handed, I'm pretty darn pleased!

Sparsity used to be free and abundant. Then we made connectivity so cheap that sparsity became rare. Like calories becoming cheap requires us to build new rules and habits to avoid overeating, this requires new rules and habits to avoid overconnecting.
