Saw my first Grizzled Skipper of 2025 at Martin Down, Hampshire yesterday. Saw another later with a Dingy Skipper. HantsIoW BC

Around 6-8 Pearl-bordered Fritillaries seen in the New Forest, Hampshire today. I really know spring is happening when I see these beauties. Took a while to find my first Pearl-bordered Fritillary they seem to have just come out, so not many yet. HantsIoW BC Butterfly Conservation 🦋

Martin Down was alive with butterflies today with Marsh Fritillary just emerging. I saw 2 but I sure there were more elsewhere on the down. 6 Green Hairstreak. This confiding Marsh Fritillary cannot have been out long. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 HantsIoW BC

Phenomenal show from Peter Donegan and Lonnie Donegan Jnr, sons of British music legend #LonnieDonegan, at The Regent on Friday. A night of spontaneity, interaction and nostalgia! Scroll pics for the time Mike Gibbons and I met the man himself on his final tour in 2002.

I could not believe my luck when I was having a walk through woodland in the New Forest, Hampshire and found myself next to a male Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. Probably nesting in the vicinity so I will not be more specific. It was on a small tree close to the path. Hants Bird News

Massive surprise when I found a Glanville Fritillary on the mainland at Southbourne Undercliff Dorset today.Probably one flying from the IOW in the hot settled conditions. My first mainland coastal record since Hordle Cliff and Hurst Spit. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 BC Dorset 🦋 HantsIoW BC

The Titchfield Haven Hudsonian Godwit showing some of it's key features this afternoon. Eventually it came closer to the hide feeding closely with a Black-tailed Godwit. BirdGuides RareBirdAlertUK Hants Bird News

One of many Black Hairstreak seen at Ditchling, Sussex on Monday. One estimate was at least 50. There were as many slightly worn adults as there were mint fresh ones. They were really active coming down until 18.00 at least. A stunning butterfly. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 @BCSussex

This is a really early Purple Hairstreak record from 7th June. It was found on the ground at a Christchurch, Dorset allotment. Message from Facebook. BC Dorset 🦋 Butterfly Conservation 🦋

After a long wait today I saw 4 or 5 White -letter Hairstreaks in elms at my local recreation ground in Christchurch. Then to my surprise one came down late in the day to nectar on bramble. Great to see one up close. BC Dorset 🦋

Thought Kate Garner might like to hear this. Even wildlife loves Chas and Dave!

Busy couple of days at Alice Holt Forest in Hampshire on 19th and 20th June. Successful with one male seen down on the 19th then 4 down including 2 together on 20th. They were very active in the heat but ttended to be more showy and stay down late afternoon. Butterfly Conservation 🦋
