Jess Phillips seems oddly comfortable with the creeping communalism in British life. She justified sex attacks by migrants, excused vigilantism and now talks about getting preferential treatment on the NHS thanks to how she voted on Gaza. dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/arti…

Andrew’s absolutely right here. Economics are really important, but there’s no future for a RW Party that isn’t socially conservative in this way. Ordinary people don’t want things like ‘Anglo Saxons banned from history curriculums’ and they want some way to vote against that.

My favourite thing about this leadership contest so far is that all across the party, notably Kemi and Tom so far, people are finally coming round to the fact that it’s the family that should be at the centre of conservative thinking rather than the individual.

The Rest is History pod is very good on this, explaining how there’s nothing problematic with the term ‘Anglo-Saxon’ (that’s how they described themselves), and that the controversy is purely a creation of American academics

In October Labour will somehow still try and say that ‘the economy’s in a much worse place than we expected’ 🤦‍♂️

What a disgrace. Britain abandoning Israel despite its frontline position in the war against Iranian-sponsored terror. Shameful. Absolutely shameful. And all to appease Labour’s Muslim vote.

Highest taxes since the war; highest immigration in history; cutting the armed forces to its lowest level ever; RAF freezing recruitment because too many white men applying; the explosion of woke jobs in government; government bodies ordering universities to decolonise; &c, &c.

Kemi was right, you’re anti-British and the sectarian, islamist politics you align with is alien and should have no place here.

I am massively in the market for more UK politics podcasts which aren’t the ’two Blairites agree on literally everything for however many minutes’ format which has become so popular. Hoping this ends up being worth a regular listen 🤞

Since Brexit, our shellshocked governing classes have tried to keep us in the EU’s orbit. CANZUK is an obvious alternative, with culturally and economically similar nations able to throw their weight around collectively. Great to see Tom’s endorsement; hope others follow.

Also voted against Vaccine Passports. I’m a committed Brexiteer, literally co-chaired Cardiff Students for Britain, but nobody’s yet convinced me that Tom is some closet Lib Dem. The evidence seems to be quite the opposite 🤔 a lot of criticism honestly just seems vibe based.

Interesting listen on Jenrick’s story & vision for the party. Most eye-opening bit for me though was the stat that the relative GDP gap between North-South England is greater than the 1989 East-West Germany gap! Shocking stat and something we 100% need a plan for as a party.

Britain needs to tighten its labour laws significantly. Checking right to work needs to be enforced punitively. Deliveroo etc allow sub-contracting, making it too hard to trace. Start fining them £250k per illegal worker, and imprison serial illegal sub-contractors.

Maybe a slightly hot take, but I’d been having to drive a petrol car for the last couple weeks and now I’ve got my electric car back I can 100% say I prefer the electric to drive. Couldn’t stand how noisy & unresponsive the petrol car was in comparison!

It’ll be a sad day next summer when Blair’s constitutional vandalism is finally completed and another living link to hundreds of years of history is brought to an end. All to turn the HoL into a chamber purely for cronies & party donors instead 🙄

We’re in danger of falling into a similar trap with the monarchy. Other than ‘it makes money’, arguments are rarely made for it and conservatives take for granted its widespread popularity. It’s why groups like The Royalists are so important to keep making the case for it.

Presumably if some centrist pro-European had challenged Thatcher on her Euroscepticism, and she went “I was PM for 11 years, I know more (code: and therefore I’m right)” that would be a slam dunk?

Cllr Dominic Ramsay (@cllrramsay) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It’s not just foreign students either. Lots of unis survive on the current culture that you ‘must have a degree’, lumping young people with huge debts for degrees they shouldn’t need. Definitely one of the worst developments for young people in the past couple decades.

Paul Steve Loftus You’re right that you don’t have to pay back if you can’t afford. Once you reach the threshold though, repayments do take a decent chunk of your income. My point more is that, unless you become a doctor, lawyer etc that’s a set of outgoings you shouldn’t have had to sign up to.
