After the blessing from Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Mumbi of the Nsenga people, #graphite field work in #Zambia got underway in earnest today with the British Geological Survey Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development | GRZ The Copperbelt University team visiting prospective sites in Petauke District, Eastern Province #criticalminerals

July in Zambia can be pretty chilly (glad I brought a jumper!). Our graphite exploration continues… the British Geological Survey Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development | GRZ The Copperbelt University team met a potter from Kalindawalo Farm who took us to where they source the #graphite used to polish pots. We will seek out more potters!

Graphite polished pot made by Dorothy from Chimwele-Agripa. The British Geological Survey Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development | GRZ The Copperbelt University team visited the source of the #graphite in gneiss occurring just south of the village. Great to learn this traditional pottery skill is being handed down to the next generation.

Last stop on the #graphite field trip in Petauke District, Zambia - from here the British Geological Survey team start the long journey home!

Long journey (400km) back from Petauke to Lusaka, as well as rock samples there was 100kg of rice (from Malawi), 10 live chickens & a lot of dried fish! Will miss the #graphite team from British Geological Survey Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development | GRZ The Copperbelt University - it was a fantastic trip. Until next time we meet!
