Further to yesterday's post about the pioneering work of Dr William Drennan for Clifton House here is 'Dr Glenn' from Ulster Folk Museum with a bit of the background on medical conditions in 18th & 19th century Belfast.
Our thanks to NMNI for permitting us to film Dr Glenn at Cultra.
One of my 5 birthing stools on display this month in Clifton House Heritage Centre
Absolutely love thinking about the stories these stools are connected to.
If you're interested on why these existed check out my website robynatcheson.com/articles/birth…

One of the most notable medical attendants to the poorhouse was William Drennan. United Irishman, poet, and doctor.
Dr Drennan worked closely with the Belfast Charitable Society in a revolutionary inoculation campaign to combat smallpox.
