Week 3 is about building your emergency kit! Old (but unexpired) canned goods, a flashlight from your kid's school goodie bag, and band aids that got shoved to the back of the closet are all great places to start! #BePrepared #HaveAPlan

One of the best ways to get involved in your community is to meet your neighbors! Strike up a conversation, join a community club/association, or do something nice for others. In an emergency, your neighbors will be there to help first! #BePrepared #HaveAPlan

Anything with a lithium-ion battery can become a fire hazard if it’s not charged safely. Always use the charger that came with the device or one approved by the manufacturer. If the cord only works when you bend it just right, it’s time to replace it.

Throwing lithium-ion batteries or devices in the trash or regular recycling bins can start a fire. Drop them off at a legit battery recycling spot, it’s safer and better for the planet. Visit call2recycle.org to find a drop-off location near you. #BePrepared #HaveAPlan

Charging something big like an e-bike, scooter, or power tool with a lithium-ion battery? Do it outside. Use a flat, dry area away from direct sunlight, anything wet, kids, or tripping hazards. Make sure your bike or device is secure so it doesn’t fall while charging.

Always charge any lithium-battery device on a hard surface. Never charge devices on your bed, couch, or under a pillow. Once fully charged, remove it from the charger to prevent overcharging! #BePrepared #HaveAPlan

Ice storms can cause power outages which is why it’s essential to have a week’s supply of food and prescriptions, trim weak or damaged branches around your home, and don’t park your car under trees. #BePrepare #HaveAPlan

Cold air affects millions of people every winter. Arctic air, together with brisk winds, can lead to dangerously cold wind which can cause your body to lose heat quickly. Avoid frostbite and hypothermia by dressing in layers, covering exposed skin, and limiting time outdoors.
