I'm retweeting this fantastic thread because there have been some very important statements that have gone up recently with no alt text. It's not fair. Alt text benefits EVERYBODY. accessibility.blog.gov.uk/2024/07/17/alt…

Reminder that professionals have a responsibility for initiating & facilitating an 'engaging' therapeutic relationship. They can be the first to disengage from us - and sometimes with terrible consequences. 'Informal' service users deserve serious therapeutic engagement too.

Working on my Centre for Disability Studies conference presentation this morning! Reflecting on how we reconcile true anti-ableist practice within the boundaries of capitalism in healthcare (spoiler: not easily!) #MySLTDay

Not long now till #CDS24! Look forward to discussing what actually is 'reasonable' in reasonable adjustments (spoiler: capitalism has a lot to do with it!) #MySLTDay

As classes start back up again, a reminder that there are disabled students in every classroom and it’s absolutely an educator’s business to make their teaching accessible to them.

If you think I’m too young, stay in your lane 🙅 Many younger Blue Badge holders have been told that they’re surely too young to need one. Sometimes even being confronted by strangers in car parks. 📢Anyone can be disabled at any age, and it will look different for everyone.

Grateful to have contributed to this project. An interesting piece of e-learning around supporting disabled students out on placement 💖

Excellent use of flow charts to illustrate the way disabled people are often expected to do 10x the labor and spend 10x time to do things as simple as taking a train.

Attention #SpeechTherapists Passing a message on: I have been asked to pass on news of the death of Dr Pamela Grunwell. After a long and distinguished career in linguistic sciences and speech pathology, she retired from De Montford University (England) in 2000

Discussing unlearning ableism in Speech and Language Therapy today at the #NDinHE conference... Thinking about how we move towards more affirmative approaches for our communities, but also for our neurodivergent SLT students as the future of the workforce?
