Mary Louisa Armitt established The Armitt: Museum, Gallery, Library in Ambleside in the early 20th century. Great to find out about her and her sisters Annie and Sophia in the introductory display. Everything from novels, to Kendal Arts & Crafts medals, to this fungi sketchbook by Sophia.

Seeing this exhibition in person for the first time today was very emotional. The power of the textiles and the stories they tell is amplified by the wonderful Ulster Museum gallery. #ThreadsofEmpowerment cain.ulster.ac.uk/conflicttextil…

With Harvest Festivals approaching, let’s highlight a traditional object used in their celebrations: the corn dolly. Made from the last sheaf of corn, it was believed to be good luck in ensuring a plentiful harvest next year. This one is shaped like a charming mouse!
