Minkah Fitzpatrick is due $15.5 million in 2025. So the Dolphins have freed up about $25.2 million in cash obligation for 2025, accepting back $15.5 million for a net savings of roughly $10 million. With this new wrinkle, they're set to underspend cash-to-cap by $34 million.

So many layers to this trade for Miami. Civil war between GM Chris Grier and ex-HC Brian Flores had historical context. Flores and Minkah Fitzpatrick couldn't get along. Neither Grier nor Ross wanted to trade Minkah, but it became necessary. Apparently, they never forgot that.

Miami took an expensive but dominant over-30 CB with a history of demanding trades...and replaced him with an expensive but dominant under-30 safety with a history of demanding trades. Age risk down. But more interesting is the skill point re-allocation from corner to safety.

From a culture standpoint it's often said one of the issues in GM Chris Grier's management of the roster is the way he doesn't reward players who have been in Miami, instead allocating big resources to veteran outsiders. This trade fits. Minkah is very much a veteran outsider.

Think this could be misleading. Ramsey was set to receive $25.1 million in 2025. Miami already paid $4.0 million of that in the form of a March roster bonus. Have they agreed to pay anything on top of that? Seems unlikely, but teams reportedly wanted Miami to do that.

Still misleading but better color here. Jalen Ramsey was owed $25.1 mil for 2025 and Miami already paid $4 mil of it in a March roster bonus. Paying an additional $3 mil is interesting. It basically splits the difference between what Pitt owed Minkah and what Miami owed Jalen.

According to Ian Rapoport Dolphins paid $3 mil more of Jalen Ramsey’s 2025 obligation to make this trade happen. Minkah was owed $15.5 mil and Jalen was owed $21.1 mil. So Miami will pay $18.5 mil for Fitzpatrick and Pitt will pay $18.1 mil for Ramsey. That’s NBA-like symmetry.

He is an unusually good fit for the types of things Miami does with their TEs from the standpoint of pre-snap motions and angling.

This is fair context, reliability of PFF ratings notwithstanding. Steelers felt they were in the same boat with Minkah Fitzpatrick as Dolphins were with Jalen Ramsey. High cost, ill-contented, diminishing asset. That was Pitt’s reasoning. One team’s trash is another’s treasure.

#Dolphins the very definition of uncertainty going into 2025. Have zero idea what this team will look like, play like, come together like chemistry wise. Zero. Fascinating to me.

Darren Waller went AWOL last offseason. The #Giants, his teammates and reps couldn't get a hold of him for months. Then he finally let the team know he was retiring. Giants should be very happy they got some sort of return for him #NYGiants #PhinsUp #hismusickindaslaps

Over the years it's become apparent Mike McDaniel has a discrete red zone pass catching role he asks his GM Chris Grier to fill. Back in 2022 they slapped a franchise tag on Mike Gesicki and his role was to catch touchdowns (5 TDs on 12 red zone targets). In 2023 they signed
