Yesterday was a windy one! Pre-preseason action saw the 309ers top the Pekin Rampage 11-3 in 7 innings. Rookies showed out! Former collegiate pitcher Logan Blackwell earned the win for the 309ers while arena football player JJ Williams added 2 hits!

The grassy area where a community garden now sits is all that is left of Voris Field in Peoria, IL--the original home of baseball in the city. Baseball was played here from 1862 until 1884. There was no backstop or dugouts or bleachers.

1862 newspaper clipping housed in the archives of the Peoria Public Library. References the first baseball game played in Peoria. The Olympic Baseball club was the first baseball club in Peoria--there would be 12 clubs in Peoria by 1870.
