We start with Ciarán McLaverty Did you know that bottom trawling was first mentioned in the 1300s, was undertaken in earnest in the 1700s and catches were already decreasing in the 1800s! The human influence on #Seafloor habitat is global and overwhelmingly negative.
Already done with two very successful days at the Oceans Past Initiative conference! Time flies! It’s great to be a part of the local organising team this year & present some of my PhD too. Looking forward to the next couple days of fascinating talks! #oceanspast #marinehistoricalecology
Fantastic talk by Ciarán McLaverty about his work on reconstructing historical trawling around the UK & Ireland as part of the Convex Seascape Survey Survey! Another day full of talks today at Oceans Past Initiative
