Books returned to the lineup early, attempting to make a difference. Alas, the injury was too much and he was shut down. That injury opened the door for Wells Sykes and Sebastian Alexander to dig their heels into the lineup for the long haul. 2/8

2. Friday starter Cullen McKay tossed 6 shutout innings in week 3 of the season vs Rutgers, but didn’t make another appearance because an injury shelved him the rest of the way. Did Coastal panic? Nope. 3/8

Jacob Morrison was working off the injury/recovery rust in the midweek games and was inserted as the Friday guy. All he’s been since is one of the best pitchers in the nation. 4/8

3. Veteran CF/leadoff hitter Dean Mihos broke a bone in his hand (HBP) on 4/27 vs JMU. He does so much for the lineup that his absence was obviously going to be felt. Coastal’s response? Tack 22 more wins onto their 3-game win streak by doing the following: 5/8

A) Caden Bodine moved to leadoff. He is who he is, & we simply got more ABs for him to do what he does. B) Sykes moved to CF. How many times has he made a highlight reel catch out there since? C) Blagen Pado inserted as the starting RF. His contributions are staggering. 6/8

There have been other moments where the depth of the roster has proven to be the biggest strength. Barrango’s work while Dooley was out & Thorndyke struggled; Estep with crucial innings when Caden was banged up; Luke Jones stepping up to fill that 4th starter role. 7/8

I probably missed something/somebody, but it’s remarkable how some of the worst moments of this team’s season revealed its biggest strength….and that’s how talented, hungry, and deep this entire roster is. They are built for the moment. 8/8
