#BREAKING: Ontario is closing down ALL schools for two weeks after March Break due to #COVID-19. Schools will be closed from March 14 to April 5 #onpoli

The closures and cancellations may seem ominous. But really, they’re amazing acts of social solidarity. We're distancing ourselves and making sacrifices to give our front-line health-care workers the best chance possible to fight the virus. We are protecting the most vulnerable

Thinking of how to be helpful in the coming weeks & here’s an idea! Can we all commit to call or text one friend each day who might be elderly, vulnerable, in self-isolation or scared, just to check in & extend moral support & friendship. It helps to know that someone cares. 😊

Online rapport and community: move to the side, acknowledge discussion posts, prioritize student-student conversations. Ask open-ended questions that draw on the readings rather than close-ended questions.

Student emotions: acknowledge the emotional load of current times - give extensions, delete assignments where possible, be generous with support. And btw, give yourself an extension - step back and breathe.

You ever just start thinking about how dogs and babies don’t know about any of this crazy going on right now and they’re so pure and you just start crying a little bit?

Thanks Raffi Cavoukian 🇨🇦 for sharing this graphic. I found it a helpful reminder to focus on and name what I can control and let go of what I can’t. Also, your song, ‘Thanks A Lot’ has been a helpful and beautiful reminder to practice gratitude even when times are tough. #belugagrad

If we decided that $2000 a month is a basic requirement to live for out of work workers. Why are we making people who are often the most vulnerable of society, and the sick and disabled, live in crushing poverty at 650-1050 a month?

The fact that scientists were right to warn for decades about a pandemic makes me wonder if they might be right about global warming too

1/2 The lesson we are learning from #COVID19 pandemic is that none of us can be safe and healthy unless we are making sure that all of us, worldwide, are safe and healthy. #OneWorld #StrongerTogether

I made the mistake of telling my husband an early symptom of COVID is loss of smell. He’s taken to passing gas in my vicinity & then when I react, informing me he is helpfully “performing a health check”. He taught the children the technique. I may divorce him.

Extinction due to GDP growth is now projected to be so extreme (20%-50% of species by the 2040s) scientists are calling for economic system change even as they freeze the cells of amphibians, birds, and mammals in case future generations can bring them back from annihilation.🧵

I voted. I voted for education. I voted for healthcare. I voted for Science. I voted for the environment. I voted for children. I voted for elders. I voted for those who are unhoused. I voted for equity-seeking groups. I voted for the vulnerable. I voted. #OnPoli

I'm just sad for serious climate action in Ontario tonight. We have no time to waste. And yet here we are - more highways, more pollution, less nature, less species.

Abdu Sharkawy (@sharkawymd) 's Twitter Profile Photo

No matter what horse you had in this race a 33% voter turnout means Ontario lost tonight. Every teacher, student, essential & front line worker lost tonight. Democracy lost tonight. Acountability & leadership lost tonight. Caring lost tonight.
