Viking vampires? Vikings had a belief in the draugr— malevolent undead beings. To prevent the deceased from turning into draugr, the Vikings might drive a stake through a dead person's body, ensuring they could not rise again. #FairyTaleTuesday

"Strong garlic wards off all undead The bloodless vampires go unfed. Hang strands above your door and home; You'll have no visitors from the tomb. No sick nor evil can invade Wherever garlic cloves are laid." ~ Delarosa Laskovna #FolkloreSunday

Many botanists & historians believe psychedelic "redcap" mushrooms which grow wild in Lapland influenced the Santa Claus legend. Sami shaman used them in ritual & had visions of flying reindeer, elves, etc. Their vivid red color was a natural for Santa's suit! #FolkloreSunday

In 19th c England, witch cakes could often be found hanging secretly behind doors. These non-edible "cakes", shaped like spiked wheels, were baked rock solid and dried in the oven, then hung on a string on the door to keep evil from the home. #LegendaryWednesday
