When a family goes from: “I don’t want palliative!” To “I’m so happy I know you” in 3 days #palliative #Nowearenothospice

Remember Tanya McDowell? She got 12 yrs for sending her son to school in Norwalk CT while she ‘lived’ in Bridgeport. She was homeless. She was convicted of “stealing“ an education. Felicity Huffman gets 30 days for bribing her daughter into college. #CollegeCheatingScandal

“...physician attitudes toward #palliativecare — rather than pts’ need for this subspecialty care — can profoundly affect whether people receive it early enough to benefit them.” Why palliative care needs to be a core rotation! #meded #hpm #hapc chcf.org/blog/missed-op…

I cringe when I hear "the person is palliative so (insert crazy opioid Rx) is OK" ⭐️A person isn't "palliative"-they're seeing a palliative specialist ⭐️It's never OK to blindly prescribe opioids ⭐️#Palliativecare doesn't denote prognosis, only a dx of serious illness #hapc #hpm

At 4 months old, human babies go through a "sleep regression" when their pituitary glands kick into gear. Generous maternity leave in America ends at 3 months. Right when mothers return to work, their kids stop sleeping. Maternity leave should be, at the humane minimum, 5 months.

COVID hits harder in the outer boroughs, where NYers without the same financial ability to stay home and socially distance live. This cannot be overemphasized. Just look at the map 👇

Thank you for taking this call. It’s so scary to get a call from the hospital. Thank you for talking about possible future scenarios. It’s hard to think about your loved one getting sicker than they already are. Thank you for doing everything you can, we will too.

Let’s swap Palliative Med out in notes: “Family isnt ready for Cardiology” “Pt is on Neurology” “Pt is doing Infectious Disease” “I’m going to have the cardiologist see you. What time works for you? 1p? Ok I’ll tell the cardiologist u want to head to the cath lab at 1pm” #hpm

For the first time since early March, New York City reported a day with *NO DEATHS* related to the novel coronavirus. nbcnewyork.com/news/local/new…

I see a lot of people talking about the survival rate of COVID-19 as if it's a reason to dismiss the virus Speaking as an oncologist, you can survive a cancer diagnosis too, but you still don't want cancer

I spend my Mondays in our palliative medicine ambulatory practice. It is very different from the acute care setting however I find I’m asked the same question. “What is the difference between #hospice and #palliative? How often do you get this question in your practice?

This March was celebrated by offering social work grand rounds at White Plains Hospital and achieving my first publication in “Mirrors and Windows”- a collection of reflections by palliative/hospice social workers. To everyone who supported my ambition - THANK YOU! #SocialWork
