The King has just left Buckingham Palace and heading to Clarence House after his meeting this afternoon with Rishi Sunak where he granted his prime minister permission to dissolve parliament so that an election can be held on 4 July.

NEW: Buckingham Palace says the King has MET Rishi Sunak already this afternoon after King Charles’ The Prince's Trust Awards reception.
They met for 15 minutes in their usual Wednesday weekly audience slot.
The Prime Minister is NOT expected to return to the palace this evening.

Rishi Sunak: “Earlier today I spoke with His Majesty The King to request a dissolution of Parliament. The King has granted this request and we will have a general election on the 4th of July.”
