When a group or industry spends a lot of money lobbying for deregulation, it's often a good sign that they actually need to be regulated more.

I'll admit it - I've got a thing about Quarks. There's something about a "killing machine in a box" that really appeals to me; it's functional, brutalist, and that weird squeaky voice is deeply creepy. I've only written one Quark story, "The Arcade of Doom", but maybe, one day...

Cloudflare blocks AI scraping by default when you add a new site. This is how easy it is. Opt-out by default. Opt-in by choice. Everyone should use this. (And everyone should opt out).

In the UK, the govt is in the process of integrating Chatbots and Gen AI into the National Health Service. With this, hallucinated factual errors, slop and non-sense will enter into our systems of healthcare. Get AI out of healthcare before people get hurt.

Somewhat surprised they aren't already doing this but still... There are bound to be some users who miss this and end up adding their (or their employer's) proprietary code to the training set.

⚠️This is worrying for free speech Britons are having to choose between surrendering sensitive personal data or being blocked from freely accessing the internet under the Online Safety Act Now more than ever, it is time to fight against censorship & surveillance.

Wow. I'm not fan of the way that the UK OSA has been implemented and I'm glad to see serious legal challenges, but someone maybe needs a history lesson here. Nevertheless, treating this as "America Vs Europe" in the current climate is probably smart positioning.

Ah, I'd love to be better than this, but I'm not. Look! It's me! And a book I wrote! In a shop! (And I didn't have to bribe them or sneak it in myself)

More lawyers cite fake AI-hallucinated case in a brief. Court identifies 13 bogus cites, an "extreme pattern of hallucinated legal citations." Court also suspects that AI wrote the whole brief, because the brief notes that TX is in the Fifth Circuit three times.

It is impossible to miss the fact that the AI backlash grows stronger every day. As teenagers die, young people find it harder to find jobs, creatives lose work & royalties, slop fills the airwaves, students cheat, we lose the ability to tell what's real, execs cut headcount,
