Kiingi Tuheitia was a humble leader, and it was through that humility that he held his influence. I just paid my respects to him at Tūrangawaewae Marae, just as thousands of people will do over the coming days.

As Kiingi Tuheitia makes his final journey from Turangawaewae, we reflect on his legacy and look to the future with hope and anticipation. We welcome the Upoko Ariki, Ngawai hono i te po, who carries forward the mantle of leadership left by her father.

There’s incredible potential for NZ to take our relationship even further with Korea, with more opportunities like trade, investment and strengthening our defence ties.

It was sobering to visit the DMZ – the area between North Korea and South Korea. Great to meet with some of the Kiwis stationed here, and better understand how New Zealand’s deployment to the United Nations Command contributes to security on the Korean border.
