As Councillor for Barrhead, Liboside & Uplawmoor, I urge Blair McDougall MP to vote to protect the Winter Fuel Payment. With 1 in 7 Scottish pensioners living in poverty, including many in Barrhead, this vital support must be maintained. Let’s not abandon our most vulnerable.

🥀 Labour damaging plan to end the Winter Fuel Payment for millions of pensioners will hit communities right across Scotland. 👉 SNP MPs have voted against these draconian cuts - all 37 of Scottish Labour’s MPs voted to implement the cut.

📢 Scotland’s 37 Labour MPs were elected on a promise of no austerity under Labour. ➡️ They could have voted to protect the some of the most vulnerable Scots, stopping the winter fuel payment cut in its tracks. ❌ Instead, they voted to toe the party line and impose the cut.

I’m extremely disappointed in our new MP for East Renfrewshire, Blair McDougall for voting to cut the Winter Fuel Payment. Many will suffer from this decision, particularly in Barrhead which has some of the most deprived areas in the country.

I’m sorry but these are not “tough decisions” for politicians. They are tough decisions for those forced to choose between heating their homes and eating.

So utterly tone deaf, your Government is allowing Gas companies to take the rip hiking prices whilst removing support from pensioners!

Next time the UK Gov try to say the whole world are facing these problems- they are lying to you. The financial issues we are facing are due to decisions made by the Tories over the last 14 years, exacerbated by the austerity supported by the new Labour Gov.

At the full council meeting this evening, I was nominated onto the Licensing Committee. I was delighted to accept this. I will continue to work on the Planning Applications Committee and the Local Review Body.

Great evening at the Uplawmoor Community Council meeting. Lots of valuable input on local issues like road safety and improving public spaces. Grateful for the community’s engagement. Will follow up on the issues raised.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Alex Salmond, former leader of the SNP and First Minister of Scotland, has died. His leadership brought the SNP into the mainstream and the Scottish Government. He was a titan of the independence movement. Our thoughts are with Moira and his family.

I've been working with residents of Weavers Lea (Littleton Park & Lyon Crescent) to address issues with unfinished roads, pavements, & the unbuilt playpark. I've contacted Avant Homes & the Council to push for action.
