Pilot to run to April 2025.

Rhodes says after the pilot they will have to decide what to do about the people not covered by the 'frictionless' check.

White paper 1 year ago said 0.6% of accounts would have this issue. Why wait 2 years to decide?

Glad to say there is no mention of intrusive open banking in the pilot for financial risk checks announced today.

Respect to everyone who protested against its use and refused to comply.

Seems like British Horseracing Authority is starting to understand the issues of affordability checks. They haven't said they welcome the interim measure but more its a 'move in the right direction'. They also get that AML checks are still spanner in the works.

Here is Andrew Rhodes, CEO of the Gambling Commission, explaining that most people do not want to give financial information to gambling operators for affordability checks. They might just move to another operator where the clock can start again instead.

Will be interesting to see if people like Alan Potts return to Betfair or if the damage has been done.

Will be watching the traded levels the next few months to see if their is any upturn.

'For enhanced checks the commission said it would carry out a pilot, working with credit reference agencies and gambling businesses, and examine potential consumer impact.'

Kicking the can down the road.

Much shorter now. The thresholds going up so much it makes the checks pointless from a harm point of view. Once the pilot fails to add anything useful the whole idea will be quietly shelved. Common sense with prevail with as much face saving as possible by the architects.
