After we found out that he shamelessly left the country with a £22 billion black hole. Proof, if it were still needed, that the Tories no longer care about economic responsibility.

Chaotic, fragmented and localised - a new electorate for 2029. Quick piece by me for LabourList digging a little deeper into the remarkable and unprecedented GE result and looking ahead to ensure we win again. labourlist.org/2024/08/labour…

Key point from Daniel Finkelstein There are (elsewhere) legitimate democratic debates about immigration in the election, parliament, the media. This racist violence and disorder is no part of that democratic debate - in either form or substance. thetimes.com/comment/column…

This from Daniel Finkelstein gets to heart of why seeing the riots as the need for conversations about immigration is (imo) misguided. We should and will have debates about immigration, racism & integration - but not as a response to acts of violence and hate. thetimes.com/comment/column…

Congratulations to all A-Level, T-Level and BTEC students in Milton Keynes who are receiving results today! 👏🌟 Whatever the result, you should feel proud of completing your exams. If they aren’t what you’d hope, there are further options for you. Well done to you all!

Today the Government sets out details of the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme. We have made significant changes to the scheme, listening to the voices of victims, following Sir Robert Francis KC’s report. I pay tribute to all those who have fought so hard on this campaign.

Fantastic news! Shreya Nanda will be a brilliant and dedicated Councillor. And as a bonus, she is a powerful voice for getting the homes built that London needs.

I hear they are worried that paying nurses and junior doctors fairly might mean there is no money leftover for Michelle Mone and Matt Hancock's pub landlord.

Wishing everyone a very happy national rollercoaster day. A day when we should also pay tribute to John Wardley, a true British icon, who has worked on no fewer than 29 rides - including, most famously, Nemesis.

Doesn't work *and* shows why graphs are important. We inherited: - The longest wage squeeze since Napoleon threatened our shores. Followed by: - The 2nd-worst economic recovery in the G7 One quarter of improving data from a *very low* base does not indicate a strong economy

Strong words from Chris Curtis MP and Labour Growth Group. He's right. Ministers and Whitehall are the caretakers of decline. We are in a GROWTH EMERGENCY and an ENERGY CRISIS. If the government is to change the country they must do so NOW with force and radical action.

326,000 people — 161,000 of them children — are struggling in temporary accommodation tonight. This Bill is fixing the broken system that fails them and fails nature too. LGG stands against these wrecking-ball amendments, and for getting Britain BUILDING.

The moral case for planning reform could not be clearer, as Chris Curtis MP highlights We want to see a world where children aren’t growing up in temporary accommodation and families aren’t saddled down by obscene energy bills That’s why we’re builders, not blockers

Depressing and disgraceful that the Tory Party voted en masse for Amendment 69 to the Planning Bill, which handed Natural England a pre-emptive veto on housing and infra development. Thankfully it was killed, but Opposition does not mean mindlessly supporting awful ideas.

As a 15yo mum, I was told what happened was my fault. Kemi Badenoch had power, yet did not meet one victim, or speak about grooming once. I do not know how she dares try & score points now. Thank god we have a gov that is taking violence against women & girls seriously.

This is why all the imported discourse about "deliverism" being a bad thing was so misguided/strange. "Delivering" improvements in people's lives is the only thing that matters.
