Strong words from #Isak tonight as he finally breaks cover… “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.” “Change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.” This feels like the final roll of the dice from Isak. Over to you #NUFC

That’s indefensible from Gordon. Reckless challenge that costs Newcastle a (makeshift) striker at a time when they really need all the firepower they can get #NUFC

Grimsby absolutely deserved that! Far better team, looked three divisions above Manchester United! That penalty shootout 🤩 As for Manchester United… 🤷‍♂️

#NUFC’s new striker en-route for a medical. The race is on to get him signed in time to feature at Leeds on Saturday!

Isak to Liverpool is done. £130m. Had to be, he’d stunk the place out. The issue now is signing another striker. #NUFC have tried for strikers all summer. Woltemade an interesting addition but he can’t shoulder the scoring burden alone. Just 12 hours to make something happen…

BREAKING: Alexander Isak has completed his move from Newcastle United to Liverpool. #NUFC say he moves for a “significant British record transfer fee”. It’s a two line statement from the Magpies. The player who went on strike to get the move isn’t thanked for his service.

My story tonight for ITV News Tyne Tees. We were given exclusive access to the “Trojan Bus” as undercover police tackled anti-social behaviour across South Tyneside & Sunderland. Camera work by Daniel Broomes. Watch here 👇

A disappointing defeat in Marseille for #NUFC, especially after going ahead so early. But until the Magpies start taking their chances in front of goal, the pressure on the (leaky) defence won’t ease. Not helped by Nick Pope and his rush of blood but not just him to blame.

Great to speak to #Middlesbrough Head Coach Kim Hellberg for ITV News Tyne Tees. ⚽️ He wants to play exciting football & wants to move the ball quickly ✨ “Wow” - his reaction to the Riverside crowd 🚌 Around football from a young age - going with his football coach Dad to away games.

Newcastle keep making the wrong decisions when they attack. They’re not moving the ball fast enough and are struggling with Leverkusen’s energy.

Much will be made of the (bad) VAR calls but Newcastle (again) only have themselves to blame. They are simply unable to keep clean sheets. Until they are more resolute at the back, points will continue to be dropped. #NUFC

Newcastle get what their performance today warrants. Nothing. They huffed and puffed but they created little and their inability to keep clean sheets costs them. Villa more streetwise & took their chances. A blow in the chase for a Champions League spot. #NUFC

My story tonight for ITV News Tyne Tees. NE1 want construction to start ASAP, the Lib Dems want it scrapped and replaced with housing. Gateshead Council insist an arena will be built. See my report into the fiasco here 👇

What’s perhaps more worrying than the defeat tonight is Newcastle’s continuing lack of clean sheets. The defence is so porous. Every time Brentford went forward they looked like scoring.
