14th May 1902 was the birthdate of Latvian composer, Lūcija Garūta. One of her most famous works is the 1943 cantata "God, your land is burning!" written during the German occupation. A recording from 1944 has Garūta playing the organ part and the sound of warfare can be heard.

This Sunday will be Pentecost and our services are sung by the boys, girls and choral scholars.

As cathedral choirs find various ways to include girls in their treble lines, it will be interesting to observe if in time this results in an improved gender balance of people becoming organists.

Yesterday our Girls Choir, Boys Choir, Choral Scholars and Adult Choir of St Nicholas Church, Harpenden sang evensong at St Albans Cathedral for a large congregation including Alan Smith. Fifty members of our choirs were able to join us on this occasion!
