For the boomers, imagine paying taxes on the unrealised gains on your equity holdings just because you transferred them to a different share registry. You still own the shares but now you need to find liquidity for a tax event.

And, it applies even if the transfer to the other share registry was necessary, e.g. for security, or because the registry shut down, or because they simply performed a software update! Oh and don't forget to complain about brain drain afterwards. That's an important part.

This will surprise some people, but the folk who reach out to me asking how to move to Dubai don't even discuss the tax advantages. They just want a friendly place to build from, better opportunities, and access to a regulated supply chain 💁‍♀️
