Last Friday, Nov 29, we hosted the inaugural WA Agricultural Research Collaboration (WAARC) PhD Showcase 🎉With more than 60 attendees in the room, the energy was inspiring as students, the WAARC team, and industry stakeholders connected, shared insights, and celebrated the work of our PhD researchers.

Previous we showed most crops produced 80 cm deep roots in reengineered soil compared to 20-30 cm in the control. My team is now trying to demonstrate whether this barley can grow 1.2 m deep roots in Badgingarra gutless sand. Crop already showing difference within 2 weeks.

Today we were out at GRDC West and Grower Group Alliance project sites in Piawanning, Dalwallinu and Perenjori, collecting data across several key legume trials. These sites are part of GRDC West broader investment into profitable, resilient cropping and legumes systems.

Outlook for summer: climate models aren't sure about rainfall, but it looks like temperatures will be higher than average. September is looking like it will be a hot month also, with 33C forecast for Morawa for Thursday. Thankfully they had some finishing rain last week. #climate

A fantastic discussion and turnout to the Southern Dirt Field Day where we showcased one of our GRDC West Fertilising Grain legumes trial sites. The trials are looking at Phosphorus response curves in grain legumes. Well done Gemma for presenting!
