The Odeon Cinema was opened in 1935 in South Chingford. Noted for its art deco lines dominated by a tower and said to be the best example, other than the 'Odeon' Leicester Square, of Andrew Mather's approach to Odeon design. It closed in 1972 to be replaced by a supermarket.

Chingford Green in c1910. Before the building of SS Peter & Paul Church in 1844, the large expanse of parish waste was grazed by sheep and owned by the manor. It had formed a natural centre to the village with routes to all the hamlets. Today it’s a traffic hotspot.
