“They all talk and say what we want to hear but we don’t see actions.” Victoria Derbyshire asks grooming survivors which political parties they trust to tackle the issue on #Newsnight’s grooming survivors programme.

Cheryl Louise Bell There will always be evil people who want to harm children, from all walks of life, but when it’s someone trusted to care for vulnerable children, it’s beyond vile. What Yvonne Keenan did is unforgivable. Anyone who abuses a child in foster care should be jailed for life!

Cheryl Louise Bell I agree, those adverts are misleading. Along with FosterWiki, I’ve been highlighting this for years. Take a look ‘From Misleading to Meaningful: Transforming Foster Care Recruitment Messaging’this is exactly why recruitment messaging needs to improve. fosterwiki.com/transforming-f…

Cheryl Louise Bell It’s simply not good enough. Children are precious and deserve the highest standards of care. We’re not meant to replace parents, but work alongside birth families always with the hope that children can be safely returned to their own families. This is the meaning of foster care

Cheryl Louise Bell I get what you’re saying, and I agree carers should be held to high standards. But foster carers do go through extensive checks before they’re approved, unlike parents, who are usually assessed after concerns arise.

Cheryl Louise Bell Thanks for taking the time to respond because these conversations really matter. At the end of the day, it’s about keeping children safe. Foster carers should be impartial and non-judgemental, offering support while the system decides the outcome.

Cheryl Louise Bell Thanks for sharing that, it really shows how much of a difference it makes when carers work with parents. That’s exactly how it should be, with delegated responsibility from the start. Sadly, too many parents still aren’t properly listened to, and it makes everything harder
