Had to look at the mowed rides in Orlestone. In real life it looks worse than the photos. No flowers, no insects, no life. In the commercial world someone would be dismissed for this. We managed to find an untouched area and it was surprisingly good. New for us Cinnamon Bug 1of2

Amazed to stumble (or rather splash) on W Suffolk's best kept secret 8min drive from our home of 30yrs! Worlington Hythe. Got in River Lark at West Row sad that vis poor, lots algae, few fish, but persisted up, coming to this "yellow crowfoot road" leading to bliss.. #MySwim 1/25

See what's happening here? Putin's sympathisers - far left and far right - are calling Ukraine's justified demand for permission to defend itself "escalation" ... 1/ but it's not just about StormShadows for Ukraine ...

I get lots of Oak Bush-crickets in the garden where they seem particularly fond of sugar I put out for moths, but today a Southern Oak Bush-cricket came in the house...I think the first I've seen here. Note the absence of wings.

It's nice to see some light shining on these utterly anachronistic bodies, I hope that the new government comes up with a new approach which balances interests more appropriately than these old boys clubs do. I've always meant to ask Philip Amies what a good approach might be.

Recent floods in Austria are mostly seen as a catastrophe. But for nature, it was a crucial part of a river life cycle. New life like at the Pielach river.

It's that time of the year when "Save the reputation of the British Empire from the wokerati" champions at Restore Trust attempt, once again, to do a bit of Trotskyite entryism & get their slate elected onto the National Trust Council. Who are they putting up this time?🧵1/10

Pegwell Bay has restricted areas, this is to protect the precious wildlife in the area which already faces so many external pressures. With so many lovely paths and places to walk dogs on the site, please keep off the tiny percentage which is set aside to help our wildlife.

Thoroughly depressing stuff from the new Government. Weak & inadequate environmental regulation is a key reason why our nature is in such a dire state. We need a lot more of it, particularly in the most polluting sectors - water industry & agriculture gov.uk/government/new…

If we can't have a German managing the football team then it goes without saying that all of our news organisations should be British owned

Back in June, Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers bred successfully rearing 2 young in the Orlestone forest area. Sad to hear that just 9 LSW were able to be monitored by the LesserSpot network. Sorry my news is late, at least it gets the survey up to ten pairs. LesserSpot Network

Alex Pastures / Orlestone forest environs: Small parties of Hawfinches appearing daily at the moment (first appeared 22/10). At Alexs feeding on Birch and Oak tips but predominantly on a bountiful crop of Sloes. 4 present today - long may they stay!
