No licence, no electrical checks, no minimum room size requirements: landlords will soon be able to rent out their properties to house asylum seekers without any of the usual protections. More cramped, squalid conditions without accountability. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/m…

This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, displacement, trauma, hostile language, long waits and harsh conditions are all damaging the mental health of the people we work with. The Asylum Bill will make this even worse. Join us in asking for a fair and humane asylum system.

More plans that lack basic humanity. These are crucial protections for an already vulnerable population, they must remain in place. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/m…

The passage of the cruel immigration bill marks an extremely bleak day for human rights in the UK. The UK government is sacrificing the rights and safety of vulnerable individuals for political gain. The bill is a cold-hearted attack on human rights. 🧵

It's vital that people who choose to seek asylum in the UK are welcomed into a system that's accessible and workable, where they can live in safe homes, can work, and have their claims processed quickly and fairly. refugee-action.org.uk/our-vision/

We say loudly, NOT IN OUR NAME. The cost of this is enormous, firstly on a human level the hurt it will cause to the mental health of migrants forced to live here, but also the cost to us all, to now be a nation where this can happen, and of course the exorbitant financial cost.

🚨The UK Supreme Court has ruled the #RwandaPlan UNLAWFUL. We urge the government to build a sensible and compassionate system which prioritises safe routes for people fleeing war and persecution simply in search of home and peace.

CheltWelcomesRefugees (@cheltrefugees) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Such a relief, government defeated over its plan to deport people to Rwanda on the uncontradicted evidence from UNCHR that they would be at risk of their asylum claims not being decided properly, and therefore risk of being returned to persecution in their home countries.

It's #VolunteersWeek - an opportunity to recognise and celebrate #volunteer contributions across the UK. Ecctis colleagues use their 15 hours paid volunteering time every year to support three great local charities: CheltWelcomesRefugees @Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust CCP

We continue to look at how our colleagues support local charities near our UK headquarters, on day four of #VolunteersWeek. Our third #charity is CheltWelcomesRefugees. Last year, our team spent 37 hours #volunteering at CWR projects & classes, reaching over 500 people in Cheltenham.

Looking forward to starting Refugee Week 🧡 with this event at Cheltenham Library, 17th June. We'll be recommending books, discussing why the label 'refugee' doesn't tell the whole story, and we'll have some amazing stories of home from refugees living in Gloucestershire Gloucestershire Libraries 📚
