I want to be more optimistic about #HIV vaccine & cure, but having covered both, I'm afraid I can't be. Still, treatment that keeps people healthy w/near-normal life expectancy & ~100% effective prevention tools is better than we have for most diseases. 1/ nature.com/articles/d4158…

This is an astonishing graphic, demonstrating the huge impact HIV treatment has had in preventing AIDS and deaths since 1996 - a scientific medical success that deserves celebration. Note though that more people died of AIDS related illness last year (630k) than in 1990. 1/2

Not surprising but reassuring. Tracing >1000 contacts of 113 air travelers with mpox did not find any cases of transmission, indicating that airborne transmission is not a significant risk factor. cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/7…
