NEW REPORT. Today we have published a new report looking at five key areas that could be improved for people with a learning disability in England: ⚖️ Overweight 🔬Cancer checks 🧠 Mental health 🩺 Annual health checks 👩‍⚕️Finding health problems early on 1/11

"Over the past 5yrs there has consistently been a 15 percentage-point difference in breast cancer screening rates & a 36 percentage-point difference in cervical cancer screening rates between people with a learning disability & the rest of the population"(Morris & Julian, 2024)⬇️

"Cancer is often diagnosed at a later stage for people with a learning disability than for the rest of the population. These late diagnoses are sadly often made in an emergency at the hospital" (Morris & Julian, 2024). Link to the Nuffield Trust research report below ⬇️

Today was a day good as I spent time with fellow students & researchers at the @HallamHRI PostGrad Research Showcase. My poster (about the development of my PhD study) was awarded a prize, and I'm grateful to those who've supported & encouraged me on my PhD journey this far.

As a finalist in Sheffield Hallam Uni's 3 Minute Thesis competition, I spoke about my research about Radiotheraphy that involves people who have Learning Disabilities & Cancer. Whilst I didnt win, today was a super experience & I got to present alongside four fabulous finalists.
