One of the perks of the job representing City Property Association at the annual City of London #property investment board dinner chaired by Tom Sleigh (not in the selfie I hasten to add, but speaking at podium) and attended by the Sheriff Chris Hayward (pictured) and notable guests.

A key concern regarding the London recovery is business rates. This system - born in the 16th century - is wildly out of step with the modern digital age. But, even before Covid-19 the system was not working.

Thank you Paul Scully for your response. I'm pleased to hear the Government recognises that London is indeed a gateway for business recovery to the UK. Great to hear that business rates are being looked at. I'm keen to make sure the London Activity Zone gets the best deal possible.

Paul Scully Very positive from my debate that the Minister spoke on a cross-party level, wanting to work with all involved to ensure London's businesses recover as soon as possible. London is an ecosystem, businesses rely on each other. Grateful to the Minister for acknowledging my concerns.

Giant outdoor European style bistrot; more pedestrianisation; more vibrancy - sounds awful doesn’t it?! Opening up our streets has been one of the few positives of the pandemic, let’s not go backwards now theguardian.com/business/2021/…

NEW from Alexander Jan. To secure London's future we need to look abroad: onlondon.co.uk/alexander-jan-… With the capital's nationally vital economy at stake, policy should focus on strengthening its position in relation to other "world cities" not undermining it. Centre for London

OnLondon Alexander Jan Centre for London This is a vital initiative at a critical time for #London. Being quarterly means it will provide national, regional and local government with regular key indicators of how our capital is performing against other major cities. Thanks London Property Alliance
